James E. "Jed" Hood was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia. Upon graduation from Wheeling Central High School, he attended West Liberty State College, where he was Student Government President his senior year. Jed graduated from West Liberty in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. |

Jed and his wife, Leslie, also a graduate of West Liberty State College, moved to Central Ohio when Jed began attending the Capital University Law School. During law school, Jed worked as a law clerk for the Franklin County Public Defender's office. Upon obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree and passing the Ohio Bar Exam in 2003, Jed accepted a position as Staff Attorney with the Public Defender's office, and purchased a home in Reynoldsburg. Jed and Leslie welcomed their son, Brady James, into the family in March, 2006. |

Also in March, 2006, Jed was appointed by Mayor McPherson to serve the unexpired term of retiring City Attorney William Underwood, and the appointment was ratified by City Council. Jed took his oath of office on March 30, 2006.

The City Attorney, pursuant to the City Charter, is responsible for advising the City's elected officials, department heads, and staff on various municipal law matters. In addition to these duties, the City Attorney is also the Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the City in all criminal and traffic misdemeanors, including OVI (drunk driving) and domestic violence cases, filed in the Franklin, Fairfield and Licking County Municipal Courts and the Reynoldsburg Mayor's Court. |

The City Attorney also represents the City in all civil litigation matters, and would appear on behalf of the City if a matter was appealed to either the Tenth or Fifth District Courts of Appeals or the Ohio Supreme Court. |

The City Attorney is responsible for civil and/or criminal prosecution of housing and building code violations which occur in the City. |
|
|
The office practice covers a wide range of municipal law issues, including zoning and land use, employee and labor relations, election law, utility permitting and right-of-way use, economic development, and code compliance. The City Attorney also advises the police department, serves as legal counsel to the Reynoldsburg Board of Education, and ensures compliance with Ohio's public records and open meetings laws.

Matt first started working for the City of Reynoldsburg in 1992 as a part-time Assistant City Prosecutor. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Ohio University in 1987, and his Juris Doctorate from Capital University in 1990. While at Capital, Matt served as a Notes Editor on the Capital University Law Review, and his article "Not Just Another #!@* Pothole - Tort Liability For Political Subdivision Road Maintenance" was published in issue 18-3. |

| Matt was promoted to full-time Assistant City Attorney by City Attorney Jed Hood in June, 2006. |
