The acronym S.W.A.T. stands for Special Weapons And Tactics.
The Reynoldsburg Division of Police and the Truro Township Fire Department has a group of officers and EMS personnel who serve on the Reynoldsburg SWAT Team.
This is a voluntarily assignment where officers and EMS applying must successfully complete several physical and tactical related tasks before consideration for the team. Once accepted, the officers and EMS receive specialized training and equipment to handle the most critical of incidents.
The team is on call 24 hours a day and required to respond at a moment’s notice. Since the assignment is a collateral duty, a handful of SWAT team officers typically work on each of the shifts throughout the day giving 24 hour, full time coverage.
With the addition of EMS personnel serving as tactical medics (TEMS), the team’s ability to provide immediate response to citizens trapped in a threatening situation is enhanced.
The SWAT team typically handles the following types of services: narcotics warrant service, execute high risk search/arrest warrants, respond to hostage/barricaded suspect situations, conduct surveillance of suspects, and assist neighboring agencies as necessary.
The SWAT Team represents the best the Reynoldsburg Division of Police and Truro Township Fire Department has to offer.
